Our Driver Ed Course is DMV Approved
Our online driver’s education course can be accessed anytime and it can be taken at your own pace. In this course, you will learn the rules of the road to drive legally and safely according to DMV standards. Behind the Wheel is a DMV licensed driving school, License # 4471. California law, as set by Sacramento, requires you to study for at least 30 hours. While the course is timed, there is no time limit to complete it.
Any other course that is not timed may not be approved by the DMV.
How the Course Works
Our online course offers DMV practice tests, quizzes and a final which can be taken as many times as necessary in order to successfully complete it.

The course is divided into 11 units with a quiz at the end of each unit. Each section has detailed explanations and videos about the rules of the road. You will need to answer 70% of the questions correctly on each quiz in order to move on to the next unit.

Once you have completed the 11 units and the time requirement, there is a 30 question final exam that also requires a score of 70% or higher to pass.
The quizzes and final exam can be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass
the course.

Get the Certificate of Completion You Need
Once you have passed the final test, an official DMV Certificate of Completion will be mailed to the address you provide at registration. This certificate complies with California DMV requirements for driver’s education and if you are under 17 and a half, you will need to show it in order to take a permit test.
Most students receive their certificate by mail within 2 to 3 business days. This certificate cannot be printed since it must be an original copy. If you have a DMV appointment and need the certificate sooner, you are welcome to come to our office in Manhattan Beach to pick it up. (Please call as soon as possible after completing the final exam so that the certificate will not be mailed.)

What to Do After Receiving the Certificate of Completion?
Upon receiving the driver’s education completion certificate, the next step is to take a multiple choice test for your learner’s permit at the DMV. A DMV appointment is required to take the permit test. The DMV may be booked up over 2 weeks out. Please keep this in mind when planning to take the permit test and be prepared to schedule an appointment well in advance.
Once you pass the permit test, call us. It will be our pleasure to teach you how to drive legally and safely!
